The 16th President of the Philippines: The Inauguration of Rodrigo Duterte with His Family

The new Philippine president Rodrigo Duterte was sworn in on Thursday, as the 16th president of the Philippines to love his country by eradicating poverty, the criminals, and illegal drugs.

Rodrigo “Rody” Roa Duterte or also known by his nickname as Digong, the acid tongue, and foul-mouthed, plans to change his country the Philippines to a federal system, and rid the government corruption.

“The problems that bedevil our country today which need to be addressed with urgency are corruption, both in the high and low echelons in government, criminality in the streets and the rampant sale of illegal drugs in all strata of Philippine society and the breakdown of law and order,” Duterte said.

The inauguration of Rody was held at Malacañang, Manila, attended by more than 500 guests. He welcomed and approached the people through his simple fashion. The guests and the newly inaugurated president served with simple finger foods such as Maruya, Monggo soup, smoked fish with alugbati, Pandesal, Vigan Longganisa, Lumpia, Davao’s Durian tarlet, fried Saba, and Juice.

He wore a simple barong designed by Boni Adaza of Chardin. While his family also wore plain and smooth Philipine inspired gowns. Duterte’s ex-wife Zimmerman wore a pastel gown kimona style, Sara wore a royal blue gown, Sebastian wore a silk barong, Kitty Duterte wore a beautiful dress made by Chardin’s Aries Escarilla, and Paolo wore a barong designed by Erwin Lee Tan.

Digong,71, said that  he wants the inauguration simple to avoid traffic and the limited space in Malacañang. Even the journalists are still off-limits from the ceremonial hallway. However, few of the TV networks are allowed to monitor the inauguration at the Malacañang.

Freddie Aguilar, Duterte’s friend, also perfomed the song “Duterte para sa tunay na pagbabago.”

Duterte promised to end the war including the Muslim issues, rebellions, and fast-growing population. He warns of rough ride while standing in front of the people during the swearing-in inauguration ceremony at the Malacañang.
